Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

At Berkshire Elementary, student safety and a smooth start and end to each school day are top priorities. Please take a moment to review our procedures to ensure your child arrives safely, is on time, and is dismissed efficiently each day.

Morning Arrival: School doors open at 7:20 AM. For safety reasons, students should not arrive before this time, as supervision is not available. Breakfast is served in the cafeteria from 7:20 AM to 7:35 AM, and students should be in their classrooms and ready to learn by the 7:40 AM bell. After 7:40 AM, students are marked tardy and must enter through the front office.
Afternoon Dismissal: To help us ensure your child gets home safely, families are asked to complete the Dismissal Form at the beginning of the school year. Staff will follow the instructions provided to assist students each afternoon.
- Bus and daycare riders are escorted to their transportation.
- AlphaBEST students are dismissed to the cafeteria under staff supervision.
- Walkers, bike riders, and car riders follow designated procedures outlined below.

Walkers and bike riders will be escorted by staff to the crosswalk at Berkshire Lake Blvd and Kirkham Drive.
Dismissal for walkers will begin after 3:10 PM to ensure a safe and orderly process.
Reminder: If you plan to pick up your child by car, they must be dismissed as a car rider. Please do not use walker dismissal for vehicle pick-up or park along the street, as this creates a safety hazard for students and staff.

Morning drop-off is located in the front driveway between 7:20 AM and 7:40 AM.
School staff will assist students as needed. If your child is able to exit the car on their own, please allow them to do so.
For safety:
- Drivers must remain in their vehicle at all times.
- The car line is a cell phone–free zone.
Please pull forward as far as possible in the line before stopping.
Do not drop students off in the parking lot.
- If you prefer to walk your child to the building, you may park in a designated parking spot and walk them across the crosswalk.
After the 7:40 AM tardy bell, staff will no longer be present outside. Students must enter through the front office.

Dismissal

Afternoon pick-up begins at 3:05 PM in the front driveway.
Please use the two outside lanes when entering the lot. After showing your car tag, do not switch lanes.
For safety:
- Drivers must remain in their vehicles.
- Cell phone use is prohibited in the car line.
A Berkshire car tag must be clearly displayed to assist staff with a smooth and efficient process.
Tags are distributed at Meet the Teacher or can be picked up from the front office.
Students will enter their car and buckle themselves to keep the line moving safely and efficiently.

Q: Can older siblings walk younger siblings to class?
A: Yes, during the first two weeks of school. After that, we encourage student independence.

Q: How will my kindergartener know which bus to take?
A: All students, including kindergarteners, are escorted to their correct bus each day. They will Tscan their SMART Tag as they enter and exit the bus.

Q: I want to walk my car rider into the building. Where should I go?
A: You may park in the front parking lot and walk your child across the crosswalk to the front doors. Please do not drop off at the crosswalk or from the parking lot.
