Northwest ISD has promoted Shanel Jones to become principal of Berkshire Elementary School, placing a veteran administrator in the leadership role of the campus.

Ms. Jones currently serves as the assistant principal of Love Elementary School, a role she has held since 2021, when she joined the district. Prior to Northwest ISD, Ms. Jones spent six years at neighboring Keller ISD, including three years as an assistant principal and one year as an assistant administrator. After Keller ISD, Ms. Jones spent two years as the lower school division head – the equivalent of an assistant principal – at All Saints Episcopal School of Fort Worth.

Prior to her time in administration, she served as an elementary teacher in both Keller ISD and Mansfield ISD. She has also served as a teacher trainer, providing new and veteran educators with guidance and support as they begin their careers or learn new skills.

Ms. Jones said she looks forward to meeting the Berkshire community in the coming months and preparing for an outstanding 2023-2024 school year and continuing the growth of the school, which opened in 2021.

“Berkshire Elementary School has set a strong foundation in its first few years, and this community values a strong education system and nurturing atmosphere,” she said. “Our Berkshire Bears have set traditions that will last a lifetime, and I can’t wait to provide our teachers and staff with the support they need to enhance the education of our students and continue to cultivate our school community.”

Throughout her career, Ms. Jones has provided support to teachers through various presentations. She has presented at Texas Christian University and Texas Woman’s University as well as at the Council of Professors of Instructional Supervision Conference.

Ms. Jones earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from Texas Christian University and her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. In addition to her teaching and principal certifications, Ms. Jones holds a certification in Texas Reading Academies.
